Lawmowing Service - Welfare Report
In June 2001 your association applied for a DVA grant to establish a lawn mowing service for Blue Mountains' veterans who are disabled and in a deserving situation. That application was successful and the service became operational in February 2002. With the grant monies this association purchased a motor vehicle, trailer and lawn mowing equipment. The service is operated by volunteers, so if you are able to help one or two days a fortnight please contact the association Peter Jones on (02) 4751-8833

Partners of Veterans Support Group - (Patron Mrs Lynne Cosgrove)
We are a group of women who have joined together to support and inform partners of veterans. Many partners are in urgent need of that support. We aim to reach these women, to listen to their needs, to develop much needed back up and friendship. With the help of speakers we also hope to generally improve understanding and better lifestyle management. This association is connected with numerous support groups throughout NSW. Our group is for partners of veterans from all theatres of war in which the Australian Armed Forces have been involved. Please click the following Link to their website www.pva.org.au

Attention all Vet's Wives
Recently Suzanne Newton, who has been married to a Vietnam veteran for 26 years, wrote to this association seeking any information that we may have collected which may assist veterans' wives to

  • Assist their partners to seek help
  • Enable them to understand what paperwork etc is involved in applying for any assistance
  • Support groups in their own area for veterans, partners, family, kids and let's not forget ex-partners affected by their involvement with our blokes.

Suzanne has started up an email club for wives/ partners and all information received will be put into the club as links or documents or include in an introductory letter to new members. The club is presently a public access one to enable others like Suzanne to find it easily and join without having to wait for an invite.
To find out more details of the club, contact Suzanne at, gsnewton@mackay.net.au and the link for the club is: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/ptsdaussievetwives

Financial Information
Veterans' Affairs offers a free financial information service to the veteran community. The service can provide information on income and asset tests, the deeming system, advantages and disadvantages of different types of investments, property settlements, re-organising financial affairs and how investments may effect DVA or DSS payments.
Appointments with the Veterans' Affairs Financial Information Service (VAFIS) officer should be made through you nearest Veterans' Affairs Network (VAN) office. Any member of the ex-service community and/or their family can contact the VAN offices to make an appointment.
